Canada Day is one of our favourite times of the year! There are always so many exciting events happening in Ottawa to celebrate our nation’s birthday, and this year is no exception. Here is a list of some of the best events and activities you and the family can do in Ottawa this Canada Day to make it one to remember!
Scotiabank Canada Day Road Races
When: July 1
Cost: Register online (prices vary)
Want to be active with your kids this Canada Day? Join Run Ottawa for the Scotiabank Canada Day Road Races at Walter Baker Park as part of the official Kanata Canada Day celebrations. There will be fun running events, including a 5K, 10K, and 1.5K Fun Run for kids aged 5 to 11. There will also be a 100 Meter Tow Trot for kids aged 4 and under. A fun and healthy way to celebrate Canada Day!
Canadian Museum of History
When: June 30 – July 1, 10:00 am – noon
What better way to spend Canada Day than learning about the history behind this beautiful country. Take the kids to the Canadian Museum of History, which is hosting a variety of indoor and outdoor activities with Parks Canada. Get free airbrush tattoos, play trivia, and join General Patente for board and chain reaction games. Be the first to see the world premiere of Canada C3 – Coast to Coast to Coast, an inspiring film that retraces the historic expedition from Toronto to Victoria through the Northwest Passage.
TD Ottawa Jazz Festival
When: June 30
Cost: $65 regular and $35 for youth (Single Day Pass)
At Confederation Park, opposite City Hall, there will be plenty of activities for you and the family to enjoy. This Canada Day there will be food trucks, activities and a day filled with the world’s most established jazz artists, presented by the TD Ottawa Jazz Festival. If the kids are ready to enjoy some great music, Confederation Park is a must-see stop on the Canada Day weekend!
Major’s Hill Park
When: June 30 – July 1
Major’s Hill Park is one of the best place to be with the kids on the Canada Day weekend in Ottawa. There will be numerous family-friendly activities in Ottawa’s downtown. Head over to the park for face painting, live music, cultural performances, pop up shops, exhibitions and much more! Check out Tim Horton’s stage as they will be featuring new Canadian artists Elijah Woods and Jamie Fine! This will be going on from June 30 – July 1st and is totally FREE! This location will also be a great viewing point for Ottawa’s Canada Day fireworks finale!
President’s Choice® Canada Day Fireworks
When: July 1, 10:00 pm
Finish off the weekend with the classic and beloved Canada Day firework show in Ottawa, which is being launched from Nepean Point for families and friends to see all across the capital. Around 10:00pm, cozy up at the best viewing spots in the city, such as the central loop of Confederation Boulevard which runs along Wellington Street, MacKenzie Avenue and Sussex Drive. Other great spots to get the best views are Major’s Hill Park and the Canadian Museum of History.
